4.30.2003 Just a word to let everyone know we're still around. I began a part time job recently, in which I teach conversational English at Honda Research and Development out on the east side. Not a bad gig, considering I work less than two hours a day, Tuesday through Friday, starting at 7:30am. Attendance has dropped off since the first class, sadly, though I can't blame them-- I'm not always in the mood to get out of bed before 6 either. We went to Tokyo the other day to meet some friends and paint the town red in Shibuya, one of the hip young nightclubby places in Tokyo. What a night. Two friends got engaged; our friend's boyfriend flew in from Australia for his first visit to a city, not to mention a non-English speaking city; someone lost their cell phone; someone accused someone else of being a horrible person; someone accused someone else of having a drinking problem; several people picked up love interests in the many bars we visited; and not a single hotel had a single vacancy, so we had to summon up some energy and stay out all night until the first train of the day (5:30 am). We thought we had the whole thing worked out-- go to a few clubs, have a few drinks, then get everyone over to the Love Hotel district and get cheap rooms. But it was not to be. How dare they not have any rooms? Oh, wait. It was 2:30 am by the time we were looking. I guess we kind of asked for it.
