Diddya know there are new pictures up in our "photos" section? They're all about our Osaka trip. Stay tuned for captions on those pictures. Seriously, one thing at a time...By the way, my speech went fine today. However, the world is kinder, brighter, and easier to be in now that it's stinking over.

Today I'm at school stressing about 2 things. First of all, I have to give a speech tomorrow in front of about 60 of my peers. This really makes me want to throw-up. It HAS to be about the use of the English textbook and other teaching materials in our schools. Talk about sucking the blood out of a turnip. The other thing I WAS stressing about was the earthquake that all my teachers have been telling me is coming today. I had bad dreams about it last night, and then this morning I turned off the gas in our apartment...just in case. Well, one of the teachers explained it to me this morning. You see, there was a smallish earthquake in Japan on 7/26, a mediumish one on 9/26, and the big one is predicted for today 11/26.

Yesterday my friend Mrs. Matsumoto took me to Moka, to see the Osaki Shrine outdoor antique flea market. She was able to explain so much to me...beautiful little glass bottles that were originally used to hold opium, dogs shown in pictures to symbolize an easy childbirth...I bought a really old, little wooden box with a picture of a god on the front that most families used to store medicine in. Mrs. Matsumoto is also a tough negotiator...so there were deals to be had.

In Japan, when children are 3, 5 or 7 they are taken to the shrine in their most glamourous duds, to pray. Their dad is in the background watching us.

I've always considered mums to be a really ordinary looking flower, until I saw them here.

Last night we went to a talent show to raise money for children in Thailand. We were planning on being moral support until we found out that there weren't going to be enough acts. So Zander zipped up his bee costume, and I polished up this song. We didn't win the contest, but it really was a lot of fun.

Here we are...mid-performance.

Really, the joke to the entire thing is that I, the bee, frolicked around the stage and audience areas oblivious to Julie singing this song (Bees don't speak English, so I'm told) until she suddenly whipped off that scarf thing and was revealed to have flowers all over her clothes, at which point, of course, it was true love.
The winner of the contest played a Chopin concerto on the piano, flawlessly. C'mon, everyone can do that. Second place went to the ever-crowd-pleasing Miranda Robertson, with her authentic Samoan hand jive.

Last weekend we also went to the Design Festa at Tokyo Big site, with our new friend Thushy.
We'd tried to buy this painting, but found out it's not for sale.

Hey there! Last weekend we spent a wonderful day under the grapevines at the Coco Wine Farm. The weather was perfect, and the wine was even better. Check out the pictures here.
